Based on our DecisionBase 2010 report entitled Type 2 Diabetes: Despite the Domination of Entrenched, Generic Oral Therapies, Blockbuster Potential Awaits a Once-Weekly GLP-1 Analogue, Decision Resources is offering an exclusive webinar entitled Exploring Current Unmet Needs in Type 2 Diabetes: What Impact Will Long-Acting GLP-1 Analogues Have? Because this webinar will feature major report findings, it is ONLY available to purchasers of this report.

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes is high and it continues to grow – over 50 million people in the world’s major pharmaceutical markets were estimated to have the disorder in 2009. Despite the availability of a multitude of drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, a significant proportion of patients fail to meet their glycemic goals, resulting in many patients developing microvascular and macrovascular complications. Consequently, there is great commercial potential for novel therapies that can provide improved efficacy, safety and tolerability and convenience as compared with available therapies. This potential is reflected in the burgeoning pipeline for type 2 diabetes, which currently contains over 30 drugs in Phase III clinical trial development.
This webinar, presented by Decision Resources Analyst Christine Helliwell, Ph.D. will answer the following questions:
- As the benefits offered by emerging therapies over current therapies vary, which drug attributes have the greatest impact on endocrinologists’ prescribing decisions for type 2 diabetes?
- What are endocrinologists’ expectations for a once-weekly GLP-1 analogue? In what proportion of their type 2 diabetes patients do they anticipate using such a drug?
- What attributes of Takeda’s Actos, Amylin/Eli Lilly’s Byetta, Merck’s Januvia, glimepiride and metformin are surveyed endocrinologists most satisfied with and least satisfied with? According to surveyed endocrinologists, how well do these agents perform on the attributes that have the greatest impact on prescribing decisions?
- What are the greatest areas of unmet need in type 2 diabetes and which emerging therapies are most likely to address these unmet needs?
Dr. Helliwell will conduct a live Q & A session after the presentation.
