Clinical trial data were presented for key compounds in several promising drug classes at this year’s 70th Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association. Among the most widely anticipated trials were safety and efficacy data from Roche’s once-weekly GLP-1 analogue taspoglutide and Novo Nordisk’s long-acting insulin degludec. Additionally, focus on the novel SGLT2 inhibitor drug class is intensifying as compounds from Johnson & Johnson (canagliflozin), Astellas (ASP-1941) and Boehringer Ingelheim (BI-10773) continue to jockey for position behind Bristol-Myers Squibb/AstraZeneca’s leading agent, dapagliflozin.

This 15-minute analyst call, presented by Decision Resources Analyst Yannick Maneuf, Ph.D., will answer the following questions:

  • How do the different long-acting GLP-1 analogues compare against one another in safety and efficacy, and how does the competitive landscape look following Roche’s announcement of a delay for taspoglutide?
  • What attributes will allow each of the different SGLT2 inhibitors in development to differentiate from one another and what opinions do thought leaders have about their mechanism of action?
  • What do key opinion leaders say about Novo Nordisk’s ultra-long-acting insulin degludec and how does the drug’s pharmacokinetic profile compare against Sanofi-Aventis’s Lantus (insulin glargine)?
  • What is the medical community’s current view of the potential link between Lantus and cancer risk? Is Lantus cleared from any link to cancer?

Dr. Maneuf and Decision Resources Director of Metabolic Disorders Donny Wong, Ph.D., will conduct a live Q & A session after the presentation.
