Pfizer’s Sutent was the leading agent in the renal cell carcinoma drug market in 2009 but, following the approval of GlaxoSmithKline’s Votrient/Patorma in the United States and Europe, Sutent’s dominance will be challenged. In addition, Decision Resources forecasts the launch of two additional targeted therapies by 2014—Pfizer’s axitinib and Aveo Pharmaceuticals’ tivozanib. The launch of axitinib and tivozanib will add to the already crowded renal cell carcinoma market and will erode the market shares of both Sutent and Bayer/Onyx’s Nexavar.
In the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and Japan, targeted therapies will account for virtually the entire renal cell carcinoma drug market in 2019, with angiogenesis inhibitors capturing 88 percent of all market sales. The remaining sales in this space will be attributed to the mTOR inhibitors, Pfizer’s Torisel and Novartis’s Afinitor.
This 15-minute analyst call, presented by Decision Resources Analyst Karen Pomeranz, M.Sc., Ph.D., will answer the following questions:
- Over the next decade, how will the first-, second- and third-line treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma evolve in the face of competing treatment options?
- Which agent will be the leading therapy in treatment of advanced (stage IV) renal cell carcinoma in 2019?
- What is the sales potential for the lead agent in each treatment line?
Dr. Pomeranz will conduct a live Q & A session after the presentation.
