Merck’s recent abandonment of vicriviroc was the latest in a series of disappointing finishes for agents that had once held promise in the emerging therapy pipeline for HIV. Clinical trial results for two of the key remaining players, Tibotec’s rilpivirine and ViiV Healthcare’s S/GSK-1265744, which were presented at the recent XVIII International AIDS Conference 2010 have led to refined expectations for new HIV therapies.
This 15-minute analyst call, presented by Decision Resources Analyst Courtney Stanton, Ph.D., will answer the following questions:
- What are the implications of a shrinking pipeline for the future treatment of HIV, and have physician expectations of new drugs exceeded feasibility?
- How might rilpivirine’s higher rate of virological failure as compared to efavirenz (Bristol-Myers Squibb's Sustiva, Merck/Banyu’s Stocrin) affect physician perception of this agent and its future place in HIV treatment?
- Will new safe and efficacious integrase inhibitors, such as S/GSK-1265744, be able to compete independently in a future market where the co-formulation is king?
Dr. Stanton will conduct a live Q & A session after the presentation.
