Hospital-acquired gram-negative infections represent an area of high unmet need and untapped drug development opportunity in the antibacterial market. Consistent with the expansion of antibacterial drug development focus to include gram-negative infections in addition to MRSA, the predominant theme at this year’s 50th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) event was the heightened awareness and rising threat of gram-negative infections, especially the increase in multi-drug resistant (MDR) gram-negative strains. Data presented at the conference strongly echoed clinicians’ concern over the immediate need for novel agents against MDR gram-negative pathogens.
This 15-minute analyst call, presented by Decision Resources Analyst Charu Vepari, Ph.D., will answer the following questions:
- In the competitive antibiotic market, which market segments (treatment by intent, pathogen, indication) hold the greatest opportunity for drug development and new therapeutic options?
- What are the most promising new gram-negative agents presented at ICAAC and what are physicians’ opinions of these drugs?
- What promising MRSA agents emerged at ICAAC? Do current drug development activities address the unmet needs for the treatment of MRSA infections?
Dr. Vepari will conduct a live Q & A session after the presentation.
