At the 60th annual conference of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, promising clinical trial data was presented on Vertex/Johnson & Johnson/Mitsubishi Tanabe’s telaprevir and Schering-Plough’s boceprevir. At the conference, researchers announced that telaprevir-based regimens cured (achieved sustained viral response) more than 80 percent of hepatitis C virus genotype 1-infected treatment-naive patients. Telaprevir demonstrated a similar efficacy when dosed twice daily or three times daily and in combination with peg-IFN-a-2a (Roche’s Pegasys) or peg-IFN-a-2b (Schering-Plough’s PegIntron).
According to data presented at the conference from a separate clinical trial, boceprevir-based regimens cured a high proportion of patients who did not become hepatitis C virus RNA negative during four weeks of peg-IFN/ribavirin lead-in phase of the trial.
Following the conference, Decision Resources Analyst Alexandra Makarova, M.D., Ph.D., interviewed key opinion leaders to determine their reaction to the news that emerged from the event. Additionally, as a result of the recently-announced improved efficacy and safety profiles of telaprevir and boceprevir, Decision Resources will update its Hepatitis C Virus report to include revised sales forecasts for these drugs through 2018.
In this 15-minute analyst call, Dr. Makarova will answer the following questions:
- According to interviewed experts, will the recently announced data regarding telaprevir and boceprevir address the unmet needs in the treatment of hepatitis C virus?
- What effect will this new data have on the potential positioning of telaprevir and boceprevir in the hepatitis C virus market?
- How will Decision Resources’ forecast for the hepatitis C virus drug market change as a result of the new data?
Dr. Makarova will conduct a live Q & A session after the presentation.
