Introduction:

Nosocomial pneumonia is one of the most important indications for hospital antibiotics because of its relatively high morbidity and mortality, high frequency of drug-resistant pathogens, and physician receptivity to new antibiotic therapies.

Using clinical audit data from AMR’s Hospital Antibiotic Market Guide (HAMG), as well as insight from more than 100 surveyed infectious disease specialists, this report examines treatment of nosocomial pneumonia, including the following:

- Analysis of the use of products by treatment intent, line of therapy, and prescribing physician.

- Prescribing behavior for the top specialties prescribing antibiotics for nosocomial pneumonia.

- Patient comorbidities, hospitalization outcomes, settings where treatment occurs, and pathogen distribution.

We analyze the current market place and examine prescribing drivers for surveyed physicians, reasons for prescribing of key products, unmet needs, and physician receptivity to emerging antibiotics that can potentially be used in nosocomial pneumonia.
